Which format should you bet on?
One of the biggest advantages of cricket betting is the variety of formats. T20, ODI and Test each have their own pace and strategy, and the betting experience differs across all three.
T20: The fastest format. In just 20 overs the result can swing in an instant. BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) and IPL are the most popular among Bangladeshi fans — these leagues are broadcast in the evening and every over carries excitement. Bangladesh Tigers matches at the T20 World Cup generate extra interest for bettors.
ODI: One-day cricket features two innings of 50 overs each. The game plan is clearer here, so many bettors find markets like Total Runs or Top Batsman more straightforward. ICC events offer a wider range of ODI match markets.
Test: Five-day cricket is the oldest format and requires the most patience. A draw is a valid result in Test matches, so every market has three possible outcomes — team A wins, team B wins, or the match is drawn. Pitch conditions and weather play a major role here.
The difference from football betting is that football covers 90 minutes of play and has its own specific markets such as Asian Handicap and corner betting. Cricket has its own format-specific markets — wickets, overs, partnerships — which do not exist in football. Kabaddi and other local sports generally have markets limited to Match Winner only.
The three cricket formats have different types of markets — understand the format before you bet.
Seven markets used most often
Match Winner
Bet on which of the two teams will win. In T20 and ODI there are just two possible outcomes (excluding a tie); in Test there are three. For example, in team A vs team B — if you choose team A, your bet wins only if team A wins.
Toss Winner
Which team will win the toss — this is completely separate from the match result and is an independent market. Interest in this market increases when pitch conditions make the toss particularly important.
Top Batsman
Bet on which batsman will score the most runs for a given team. If someone is in great form playing in Sylhet, their name naturally comes up — but betting should be based on numbers, not emotion.
Total Runs — Over/Under
Will the total runs in a match or innings go above or below a set number? For example, "Will the innings total exceed 160?" — this is not directly related to which team wins or loses.
Top Wicket Taker
Which bowler will take the most wickets — this is a particularly popular market on pace-friendly or spin-friendly pitches.
Multi Bet (Multiple Selections)
Adding multiple markets to a single bet multiplies the odds together. For example — if three selections have decimal odds of 1.70, 1.80 and 1.90, the combined odds are 1.70 × 1.80 × 1.90 = 5.81 (approximately), so a ৳100 stake returns ৳581 if all selections win — but if any one loses, the full ৳100 is gone.
Method of First Wicket
How will the first wicket fall — bowled, caught or run out — this market is popular among specialist bettors. Because it focuses on a single brief event, the result is known quickly.
Tips for choosing markets
- Choose markets based on the format — the same market does not work the same way in T20 and Test
- Multi bets offer higher returns but higher risk — start out practising with single markets
- Over/Under markets can work well as an alternative to outright markets
- Toss betting is entirely separate — it has no connection to match analysis

Decimal, Fractional and American — three odds formats
Even though odds look different, all three formats express the same outcome — only the way they are presented differs. Bangladeshi players tend to find decimal odds easiest, because the total return is simply calculated by multiplying the stake.
Example 1 — the same odds in three formats
Team A to win, stake ৳200:
If team A wins, you receive ৳450 (৳250 profit + ৳200 original stake).
If team A loses, ৳200 is gone.
Example 2 — odds for the favourite
Team B to win (favourite), stake ৳200:
If team B wins, you receive ৳300 (৳100 profit).
American minus odds (-200) means you must stake ৳200 to make ৳100 profit.
Why are decimal odds easier?
With decimal odds, just multiply your stake by the odds to get the total return. For example, ৳200 × 2.25 = ৳450. This already includes the original stake.
Where are fractional odds used?
Fractional odds are more common on European betting sites. 5/4 means ৳5 profit for every ৳4 staked — your original stake is returned separately.
How to read American odds
Plus (+) odds show how much profit you make on a ৳100 stake. Minus (−) odds show how much you need to stake to make ৳100 profit.
Odds shift when a wicket falls — how in-play betting works
The odds you saw before the match began keep changing throughout live betting. Every ball, every wicket and every over's figures have an immediate effect on the odds.
Say team A loses their first two wickets within five overs — team A's odds of winning will naturally lengthen (because they are now in a weaker position) while team B's odds will shorten. In the same way, a big score at the end of the powerplay brings the batting team's odds down.
Decisions in live betting must be made quickly because odds change second by second. Rather than rushing into large stakes, start practising with small amounts.
In-play tips: Wait until after the first five overs to read the situation before placing a bet. Odds fluctuate most during the powerplay and death overs.
Good habits for cricket betting
Before each match, decide how much you are willing to stake. Choose an amount you can accept losing — betting is entertainment, not a source of income.
Start with Match Winner. Build experience with that market before moving on to Over/Under or multi bets.
Notice how odds change across different markets for the same match. This will help you develop your own ability to analyse.
Placing a large bet to recover a loss is a common mistake. Avoid it and keep your stakes consistent.
